Where did the myth of unicorns come from?

Well we all have heard of them in stories, cartoons and movies but where  does these myths actually come from ? .In the Middle Ages  it was commonly described as an extremely wild woodland creature, a symbol of purity and grace, which could be captured only by a virgin.
its very likely to come from the writings of  Ctesias of Cnidus  a Greek historian and philosopher as well as those of Aristotle.
Greek scholars actually believed that this creature was real, and that it made its home in India.  At the time, India was a little known distant land that seemed magical and mysterious to the ancient Greeks and Romans.  Fittingly, the unicorn was seen as a mystical and mysterious creature who commanded great respect and power.
" The unicorn, through its intemperance and not knowing how to control itself, for the love it bears to fair maidens forgets its ferocity and wildness; and laying aside all fear it will go up to a seated damsel and go to sleep in her lap, and thus the hunters take it ".
One suggestion is that the unicorn is based on the extinct rhinocerus species Elasmotherium, a huge Eurasian mammal native to the steppes, south of the range of the woolly rhinoceros of Ice Age Europe. Elasmotherium looked little like a horse, but it had a large single horn in its forehead.
no matter where these myths came from they sure seems magical and to movie makers these magical creatures are a treat and surely they will never lose any chance of using its myth to their advantage.
